From September 21–27, 2025, the NHTSA is spotlighting National Child Passenger Safety Week — an annual campaign designed to remind parents and caregivers that the right car seat, properly installed, saves lives.
Case Result Spotlight
“No child should suffer because another driver ignored the rules of the road. When a reckless driver ran a stop sign and crashed into the vehicle carrying our young client, we made sure their injuries and medical needs were fully recognized—and we fought hard to secure a $350,000 settlement that supports their healing.”
A minor passenger was injured when a driver ran a stop sign and struck their vehicle. After an ER visit, pediatrician follow-up, four orthopedic appointments, and an orthopedic procedure, the case was resolved for $350,000 to ensure the child received proper care and recovery support.
Why It Matters
Car crashes remain a leading cause of death for children in the U.S. In 2023 alone, two kids under 14 lost their lives every day in vehicle accidents, and nearly half of those killed weren’t buckled in. These aren’t just statistics — they’re preventable tragedies.
What Parents & Caregivers Can Do
- Pick the right seat. Every child has different needs depending on their age, height, and weight. Use NHTSA’s Car Seat Finder to make sure your seat is the right fit.
- Check the installation. Even the best seat won’t work if it’s installed incorrectly. Follow the manual, watch tutorials, or visit a certified inspection station.
- Take advantage of Seat Check Saturday (Sept. 27). Across the country, experts will be available to check car seats for free.
- Register your seat. This ensures you’ll be alerted quickly if there’s ever a recall.
Quick Safety Reminders
- Keep children rear-facing as long as the seat allows.
- Harness straps should be snug, with the chest clip at armpit level.
- Transition to a booster only when a forward-facing seat is outgrown.
- Don’t use expired or damaged car seats.
Takeaway
National Child Passenger Safety Week is more than an awareness campaign — it’s a chance to make sure every ride is a safe one. Double-check your car seat, spread the word, and protect the kids who count on you.
